This blog does not usually comment on gun control/gun rights issues. Not much point. It is difficult to change minds in this regard.
Here is an interesting observation about the gun rights rally in Richmond, Virginia yesterday.
There was an estimated attendance of 22,000 individuals. A conservative guess is that 90% of those who demonstrated outside the Capitol grounds had at least one firearm. A large number had several. Not one was fired; no one was shot. Yet another demonstration that the guns do not kill people; people kill people.
Naturally there were some nitwits — white supremacists, neo-Nazis, etc. — who are not helpful, showed up. Don’t know about the masked thugs on the left. One woman — not sure of where she fit on the political spectrum — was arrested for wearing a mask in public, apparently a felony in Virginia. Texas once had such a law that was instituted in the 1920s under the administration of Governor Miriam Amanda “Ma” Ferguson as an anti-Ku Klux Klan measure.

One of my favorite movie quotations is from Jimmy Stewart’s character in “Shanandoah”, a soliloquy spoken when he is faced with the seeming failure of his futility-wracked search for his missing son who was abducted by Yankee soldiers.
I quote from memory, so please excuse any inaccuracies. The emphasis is Jimmy’s.
“…I just had to TRY. Because if we don’t TRY, we don’t DO. And if we don’t DO, why are we here on this Earth?”
So, in that spirit, instead of preaching to the choir, this blog should go ahead and try to change some minds.
Since the CM Honky like movie quotes we’ll share this one from the 1953 film Shane:

Marian’s sentiment’s have some merit.. World might be better off of nukes had never been invented. What about automobiles, which are the tools for as many premature deaths as guns? Unfortunately, in the story as well as in our real life, the bad guys will always have guns.
Even without guns there are numerous ways to inflict death an mayhem. A few years ago, a jogger on a hike and bike trail close by was hacked to death by a madman with a machete. His distraught wife committed shortly thereafter. If the jogger had had a gun, both might still be alive, and the assailant dead, rather than languishing. in a state facility at taxpayers’ expense. Oh well, to paraphrase another movie line, justice has nothing to do with it.
As for saws, why specifically table saws? There are chain saws, radial-arm saws, jigsaws, band saws, hack-saws, etc. They all have their purposes.

Bad optics, at best.
Bad optics? Really? Both King and his organization and allies and the various Second Amendment supporters were in support for and defense of individual rights guaranteed by the U. S. Constitution. It was an appropriate day to have the rally.
